Hot off the heels of their acclaimed production of Jez Butterworth’s Jerusalem Guildford’s innovative theatre group, Pranksters Theatre Company are returning to the Guildford Fringe Festival with Joe Harbot’s The Boy on the Swing, 10th – 11th July at The Star Inn, Guildford.
Earl is a pretty regular guy, good job, good friends and a healthy sense of curiosity about the world. When he finds a mysterious business card on the ground outside his house promising to answer all his questions he can’t help but ring. What ensues is a swirl of absurd situations, kooky characters and a meeting with a man who may, or may not be God.
A dark comedy about corporations, greed and the commercialisation of God, this intriguing play “combines Kafkaesque bewilderment with the daftness of Douglas Adams.” (Time Out London)
Director Amy Yorston commented: “I saw this play when it premiered in London and absolutely loved the comedic writing and quirky characters. It’s a really unusual piece and perfectly suits the Guildford Fringe lineup. The cast can’t wait to get into The Star and we can guarantee lots of laughs from the razor sharp wit and bizarre situations that Harbot creates for the very confused Earl.”
