Brainfruit Productions are bringing their singing bear, dancing wolf & buffalo to Guildford’s 2019 fringe. Their acclaimed comic musical, Bear North, will play at the Star Inn on Saturday July 14th at 7pm.
Set in the wilds of Northern Canada, the show has just returned from New Zealand’s fringe circuit where, in 2017, the company won the Best Ensemble Award.
Artistic Director, Roy Hutchins says, ‘We’re delighted to come to Guildford. I think the off-beat, whimsical nature of Bear North is going to really strike a chord – it’s great fun. Where else can you see a dancing bear in a dress?
Bear North is an intimate, hypnotic and compelling show. A man wearing a giant furry grizzly mask on his head invites you into a magical space where bizarre folksy-bluesy songs with guitar and violin gently transport you to the surreal world of Deepwater Point. Set in a timeless Canadian wilderness and starring a dancing buffalo and shamanic wolf, you’re in for a treat! If you love nature, animals, campfire songs, stories and shows with meaning and heart, then you’ll love Bear North!
Multi award winning performer Roy Hutchins invites the audience into this unique and magical space, where the themes of love, loss and nature are amplified through the poignant and accomplished strings of Sue Bradley on electric violin and stomp box and Vasco’s folky bluesy guitar. The ten songs in the show are all original and by turn amusing, stirring, and bizarre, and the narrative they all gently correspond to transports you to the surreal world of Deep Water Point and its strange inhabitants.
“Absolutely charming and memorable” Latest Reviews: Brighton Fringe
“Embrace the surrealism, let go and run with it, the show is a rather wonderful one” Fringe Guru
“Fantastic! The most gently batty thing I’ve seen for years! “Audience Member
“…it would be difficult for even the most closed-minded, straight-laced and orthodox individual to resist being caught up in the friendly atmosphere created by the four performers and their genuine rapport. Somehow, these endearing relationships on stage are projected onto the audience who usually end up leaving with a kind of fellowship which wasn’t present before.” Broadway Baby
“The concert will leave you feeling a precious little bit happier than before” Broadway Baby
Bear North is the latest offering from Brainfruit Productions, who previously produced the award-winning Fiery Tongues and numerous collaborations with the poet Heathcote Williams. Roy Hutchins (the Bear) is a multi-award winning performer and Sue Bradley (violin) is a Perrier winner for her work with Pookiesnackenburger.
