We caught up with Going South who are going to Guildford Fringe Festival on 11 July to The Back Room of The Star Inn.

Q: Lesley you have a classical background, why the change to musical comedy?

Hitting the high notes was getting harder and I wanted to create something original, so here we are after 4 years of hard work

Q: You were a trio last year, you seem to have been careless and lost a member.

Going South gets its name from the fact that how ever hard you try, things head south as you get older; our third member didn’t even have any cellulite so she had to go

Q: Mairi, who writes your material?

We both write stuff but we have a very talented co-writer, Andrea, who is our inspiration.

Q: Have you had anyone famous in your audience?

We performed at the Funny Women Awards 2016 and Josie Lawrence was there, she even Tweeted about us.

Q: What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you during a performance?

Last year when we performed at The Brighton Open Air Theatre, the wind was so strong we were almost blown off the stage, wigs were nearly lost and members of the audience even came on stage to hold our music stands and lend us their coats.
