Deeds With Words: Votes for Women and the Edwardian Stage

September 15, 2025

Event Time:

8:00 pm

Event Location:

Fallen Angel Bar, The Angel Hotel

In 1908 the Actresses’ Franchise League and Women Writers’ Suffrage League were founded to bring together theatre and entertainment professionals in support of the Votes for Women movement. Both organisations commissioned, produced and performed a huge variety of pro-suffrage theatre, dance, puppetry, music, and immersive experiences across the UK, seizing the opportunity to make new work that responded to the issues and ideas at the heart of the suffrage campaign. Join Dr Naomi Paxton to find out more!

Naomi Paxton is Honorary Knowledge Exchange Fellow at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Associate Fellow at the School of Advanced Study, University of London, and a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
