The countdown is underway for Guildford Fringe Festival’s ‘5th Birthday’ celebrations in July.
Guildford Fringe Festival was set up in 2013 by local actor Nick Wyschna and has gone from strength to strength and grown in size year on year.
Now in 2017, its fifth year, Nick was keen to celebrate the Fringe Festival in style. So along with Guildford Fringe General Manager Charlotte Bateup, they have programmed the most extravagant lineup to date. Right through July there will be a massive range of events for you to enjoy, running at lots of different Guildford locations – including street performances in the Town Centre. Festival acts booked already include theatre, comedy, poetry, dance, music, films, talks, exhibitions, magic and children specific events.
‘It can’t really be the fifth year already can it?’ says Nick Wyschna, Artistic Director. ‘I’ve had so much fun over the years working with the Guildford local community and arts scene that it feels like only yesterday we were programming our very first shows!’
‘This year is a special one in more ways than just being our birthday and we have more events booked in than ever before. If I was to choose a few highlights, I think I would say don’t miss our opening show at G Live on the 1st July. We have an all-star lineup of comedians including Mark Dolan (Channel 4), Paul Sinha (The Chase), Zoe Lyons (Live at the Apollo) and Joe Lycett (8 out of 10 Cats).’
Nick continues, ‘There are so many events that I am looking forward to seeing, so to mention them all would be impossible. But, I am incredibly excited about watching Benjamin Earl on 26 July at Tudor Antiques (a new venue for us), with his new magic show, Ordinary Things. The difference with this show is that he tells us how it’s all done! Ben is one of the best magicians and sleight of hand artists in the world, I can’t believe we have managed to secure this booking for Guildford Fringe. We are also delighted to be programming two superb children’s shows for towards the end of the Festival at The Bellerby Studio in G Live: An Interactive Adventure to Outer Space on Tuesday 25th July and Alma on Wednesday 26th July.’
As well as putting on all these incredible events, Guildford Fringe will be collecting throughout July for The Jack Wyschna Bursary which helps people studying in the arts that are struggling with the fees.
Guildford Fringe Festival is running from 1-30 July 2017.
