GUILDFORD FRINGE FESTIVAL is delighted to be preparing to set up shop in White Lion Walk once again! The shop will be open from 25 June.

Between June 29 and July 29, Guildford Fringe will present a staggering 130 events across 14 town centre venues for their sixth year! See what they have going on HERE.

The Fringe Box Office opens in White Lion Walk on Monday, June 25.  More than just a place you can visit to purchase tickets and find out some Fringe tips on how to get the most from your Festival experience, the Box Office will also be home to the White Lion Walk Art Exhibition, celebrating the talent of local artists.

Guildford Fringe Director Nick Wyschna said: “I am over the moon to be working with White Lion Walk again this year and I cannot thank them enough for their support.”

“Our Box Office and Art Exhibition is a place where people can come and ask questions about events, ask for recommendations and, if nothing else, have a good chat!

“The way the Fringe has grown over the last six years has always been by making strong partnerships and this is another example of that. We hope to attract more visitors to come and enjoy White Lion Walk, which is full of great retailers, many of which we had the pleasure of getting to know last year during Guildford Fringe Festival.”

Participants in the Art Exhibition include artist Diana Jane.

Diana takes her inspiration from nature and the natural environment. The ebb and flow of life constantly moving and forever changing.

Diana creates photographic images that have an ethereal quality subtly fusing the boundaries between reality and fantasy. Trying to capture the essence of time and memory within her work using old discarded possessions, photographs, objects and the natural landscape.

If ceramics are more up your street we have Terri Smart and Ysanne Brooks for you.

Terri Smart took up ceramics in 1990 when she was working as an architect in Hong Kong.  The feel of the clay and Terri’s delight in making a structured piece out of a formless lump became more and more important in her life as Terri became familiar with the medium.

Influenced by natural elements such as wind and water, Terri likes to emphasise the contrasts between nature and man, for example in her boat pieces where the size of the boat indicates just how puny we are compared to the vastness of the sea.

Most of Terri’s work is hand-built in textured stoneware clays, and decorated with coloured slips, oxides and glazes before firing to 1260°C.

Ysanne Brooks is a journalist and ceramicist living and working from a bijou cellar studio in Surrey. Her experience in interiors journalism, including a stint as editor of a national homes magazine, provided her with a taste for all things beautiful. A move out of the Smoke to leafy Surrey eight years ago became the first step in an exhilarating and rather unexpected journey that’s resulted in her developing a small ceramics business alongside her continued work in the magazine industry. Inspired by her many years writing about beautiful homes, she now specialises in useful, hand-thrown and hand-built pieces that simply but effectively enhance the home and garden.

The wonderful and award winning Sue Roche Photography and Liz Hauck are both back for another year in the White Lion Walk box office.

Sue Roche started out in the dark room 18 years ago.  Inspired by new places, movement & light, Sue intuitively capture alternative views of landscapes, people and architecture. The striking photographs are then printed directly onto aluminium to create stunning artwork. This technique places the focus entirely on the photographs, rather than seeing reflections in glass. People relate well to her photographs & particularly like this superior contemporary finish.

For 4 years Sue has been exhibiting permanently at the award-winning  Art Shed Gallery at The Medicine Gallery in Cobham. Over the last couple of years Sue has been selected to exhibit at The Edinburgh International Festival & a number of London Galleries, namely The Oxo Gallery, The Embassy Tea Gallery & The Clerkenwell Gallery.

Liz Huack’s  inspirations and the starting points for her work are usually quite literal and specific, frequently a form taken from nature, maybe an image from a magazine.

The creative process is similar to the improvisation of a jazz player: a kind of riffing and experimentation around the initial idea using colour, shape and texture. As in jazz, Liz uses discordant elements to highlight the visual harmony.

She uses colour and texture to create evocative images – seeking vibrant yet subtle colour adjacencies and rich textures using palette knife and sgraffito techniques.

The ‘meaning’ of the work doesn’t lie in what can be recognised, but rather in how a painting makes the viewer feel, the memories and images that they stimulate and the particular and idiosyncratic emotional responses that they evoke.

We are over the moon to have a brand new artist in the exhibition this year.
